This little staycation felt so restorative and happy – just what we needed at a time when we were meant to be at home. While the majority of this weekend holiday was spent sans makeup, in the evenings, we did dress up for our dinner reservations which meant (for the first time in what felt like ages) I was reunited with some of my favourite makeup products.
With the amount of planning I’ve put into our trip to the seaside this weekend, you can tell I’ve not gone on holiday for seven months (and before my North American friends roll their eyes, long weekend holidays every few months is definitely a thing in the UK).
In the two years we’ve lived ‘across the pond’, there are some aspects of the UK that I’ve really grown to love and appreciate. The below list isn’t a round-up of the major perks to living in London, rather they’re small details that are easy to overlook but deserve an appreciation post (in my opinion).
While my love/hate relationship with running often errs on the side of hate, I can’t deny how good it feels once it’s over. Plus, with the right music, trainers and route, an outdoor run, alone, can be just the thing to clear your head and improve your mood.
If I have learned anything about myself in this quarantine it’s that I can not be trusted with ‘online window shopping’ after a glass or two of wine. I’d be lying if I said online shopping didn’t quickly become a quarantine hobby (alongside playing The Sims and binge-watching the Real Housewives and Selling Sunset series).
I would be lying if I said I didn’t miss the London of six months ago: bustling streets, sardine-packed tube trains and overflowing pubs. At first, lockdown felt like a dreamy way to press pause on day-to-day life. We spent our hours outside of work playing video games, binge-watching Netflix’s most coveted series, navigating home workouts and reading an endless supply of books. Eventually, however, the days started to feel long, Netflix conquered and our flat smaller.
Wow, it has been a minute since I’ve written here. In an attempt to revive my old blog and get a bit more writing into my life, I thought I’d blow the dust off my little place on the internet to catch up with you all.
For those who may not know, I recently moved to London with my husband, J. It was a big move and boy, have I realized some ‘things’ (to take a page from Kylie Jenner’s book).
If you’ve followed this space since the very beginning, then you’ll know J and I’s love story is a funny one. We grew up just 10 kilometers apart, he worked at the fast food restaurant my friends and I would skip class to go to, and we had numerous mutual friends. In fact, one summer during university, I went to a house party in the city and J was there with his friends, yet we never met. I guess it just goes to show timing is everything…
Time flies when you’re having fun is basically the motto of my last six months. I went from puppy training and lapping up summer in Chicago to suddenly it being a new year with new goals. I already know this is going to be another crazy, hectic, adventurous year but I am up for the challenge…
